FAISALABAD: The Customs Adjudication Collector Raja Tahir Majeed has ordered to impound Toyota Land Cruiser under customs laws while issuing an Order-in-Original (ONO) in favour of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation.
Following credible information, the Customs Intelligence, Khushab trying to intercept a used Toyota Land Cruiser displaying Registration No ZH-518 near Kundia Mor MM Road, Miawali, but the driver did not follow the instruction.
The officials chased the vehicle; however, the driver stopped the said vehicle near Miawali Toll Plaza and and managed to escape from the spot taking advantages of darkness. After taking vehicle into custody, the officials tried to trace the accused driver but it could not be happened.
Search of the vehicle was conducted, but the customs staff neither found any documents showing legal import or lawful possession in the vehicle nor any identification of the driver.
The Khushab Customs Intelligence impounded the vehicle and sent its chassis for forensic test. The report revealed that the Toyota Land Cruiser’s number was bogus and not original. The report also clarified that present chassis number is not original, so the case was sent for adjudication.
Meanwhile, No one appeared to defend the case from respondent side and nor any written reply was received from the respondent side to the adjudication. While Intelligence Officer Mohammed Saleem appeared from the prosecution side and asserted to impound the vehicle.
Therefore, Collector Raja Tahir Majeed issued ONO and ordered to impounded the vehicle under Section 156(1)89(1) of the Customs Act, 1969.
