CJP Nisar summons NAB chief over ‘disappointing’ performance

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar has summoned National Accountability Bureau Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal to his chamber over the disappointing performance of the anti-graft institution.

During the hearing of a case on Friday, the CJP raised questions about the performance of NAB, remarking that NAB was doing nothing except knocking legal doors frequently.

Is there a single case that NAB has winded up, the top judge questioned, adding that the nation must know what happened to those who were involved in illegal appointments.

He further observed that there was a need to change the structure of NAB as investigations and filing of references takes place without any tangible output on the cases.

The CJP asked if this is the duty of courts to purge the NAB of its wrongdoings, following which he summoned NAB chief to his chamber.

Chairman NAB, Javed Iqbal is a retired Senior Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan who is currently serving as the Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB); he was appointed as the chief on 8 October 2017.

His credentials led to the government appointing him as a chairman of the Abbottabad Commission to find out the preludes and causes of the unilateral raid conducted by the United States in Abbottabad in 2011 by the name ‘Neptune Spear’. The NAB chief has not appeared before the apex court till now.
