KARACHI: The Collectorate of Intelligence Unit (CIU) of Customs Collectorate Port Muhammad Bin Qasim has detected millions of rupees tax evasion through mis-declaration in the import consignments during the last two years, it is learnt.
Sources informed Customs Today that the CIU-Customs Port Muhammad Bin Qasim, while following the directives and instructions of the Collector Mukarram Jah Ansari, has started to scrutinize the import data of the last two years.
The sources said that the CIU has detected the tax evasion of around Rs 80 million during the last two years in import of different consignments.
Responding to a query, the sources informed that the authorities concerned of CIU have also prepared a list of those importers whose committed tax evasion by availing undue benefits of SROs at the time of importing their consignments.
The sources further informed that the authorities concerned would send a final list to the Collector Port Muhammad Bin Qasim by the end of this current week. However, the action against the tax evaders in order to recover the evaded amount would likely to be started from next month, as the authorities concerned would make their efforts to recover the evaded duty and taxes amount before the end of the current Fiscal Year2015-16.
Replying to another query, the sources informed that the authorities concerned of CIU would send the show-cause notices to the importers who evaded the legitimate duty/taxes while importing their consignments during the period of last two months.
