KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued notices to the customs department and deputy attorney general on a constitutional petition filed by Abid Ashraf, seeking release of his Toyota Hilux Surf bearing registration BD-6793 jeep model 1992 seized by customs authorities.
While the hearing of petition, a two-member bench, headed by Justice Munib Akhtar directed them to file their respective para wise comments on the next date of hearing.
Earlier, counsel for the petitioner stated that petitioner is lawful owner of Toyota Hilux Surf jeep bearing registration no: BD-6793 model 1992 and purchased it after fulfilling all liabilities according to the law. However, the customs authorities impounded his vehicle on the charges of being non-duty paid.
Citing Collector of Customs, Adjudication-I, Director General Intelligence and Investigation-FBR as respondents, petitioner pleaded the court to declare the act of the respondents is illegal, mala fide and arbitrary.
He also pleaded the court to direct the respondents to release his vehicle immediately and restrain them from taking any coercive action against him till final order in this petition.
