KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) issued notices to customs department and deputy attorney general on a constitutional petition filed by Fazeer Abad son of Siddqui seeking release order of Hino oil tanker seized by customs officials during a crackdown.
During hearing of petition, a two-member bench, headed by Justice Munib Akhtar directed them to ensure to file their respective para wise comments on next date of hearing. Court also adjourned the matter for September 18, 2017.
Earlier, counsel for the petitioner stated that he is lawful owner of Hino oil tanker bearing registration number TUA-872 seized by customs officials.
He further argued that concerned authority had directed customs officials to release his oil tanker, however, high officials of the customs department refused to release his oil tanker, therefore, court may proceed against the contemnors Iftikhar Ahmed, Collector of Customs Preventive Model Customs Collectorate and others for disobeying and contempt of judgment/ order dated 20/03/2017 passed by appellate tribunal.
Citing Secretary Ministry of Finance, Customs Appellate Tribunal Model Customs Collectorate as respondents, he further pleaded the court may direct them to release order of his oil tanker immediately and restrain them from taking any coercive action against the petitioner. He further pleaded the court to start contempt proceeding against alleged contemnors.
