LAHORE: Special court of customs taxation and anti-smuggling has approved a four-day physical remand of an accused in a cigarette smuggling case.
Customs intelligence presented an accused Rameez Iftikhar before the court of customs taxation and anti-smuggling judge. Customs investigation team asked for a remand of five days to grill the accused.
On the request of customs team, Shakeel Ahmad, Judge of the Customs Court, handed him over to the investigation team for four days and directed them to present him again on 24th of May for further action.
Sources told Customs Today that accused Rameez Iftikhar was arrested on the charge of smuggling of cigarettes to America. He was attempting to smuggle 65 cartons of cigarettes to USA while declaring them as cloths. The value of the cartons is more than Rs1.3million.
On the other hand, 21 other cases were also scheduled for hearing on Monday. Most of the cases were adjourned without any proceedings as parties and lawyers concerned did not appear in the court.
Framing of charges against Humayon Rasheed also adjourned for next week.
Final arguments and statements of the parties concerned in a case of smuggling against Rafique Ali was also scheduled for hearing which is rescheduled for next week.
