BEIJING: China imported 71,000 tons of polysilicon for making solar wafers in the first half of 2016, increasing 18.1% on year, according to industry sources. Average import price stood at US$17.59/kg in June and US$15.97/kg for January-June, the sources said. PVOf the imports, 33,800 tons (47.7%) came from South Korea, 17,300 tons (24.4%) from Germany, 9,400 tons (13.2%) from Taiwan and 2,600 tons (3.6%) from the US, the sources indicated.
Domestic polysilicon production in first-half 2016 amounted to 95,000 tons, the sources said, adding there were six China-based polysilicon makers each with annual production capacity of over 5,000 tons. Due to strong demand in the domestic market, many China-based polysilicon makers fully utilized their production capacity in first-half 2016, the sources indicated.
