ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigations had expedited its campaign to impound non-duty paid vehicles during the first four months of current fiscal year, which resulted in taking 200 illegally imported vehicles off the roads.
Sources told Customs Today that during the campaign from July 2016 to October 2016, the Customs Intelligence and Investigations impounded as many as 171 non-duty paid vehicles worth Rs 462.2 million. The Customs Intelligence teams impounded 40 non-duty paid vehicles during the same period of the last year. Statistics showed that the current number of impounded vehicles is 280 percent more than the number of the vehicles impounded during July to October last year.
Sources said that Customs Intelligence showed outstanding performance regarding non duty paid vehicles and impounded 27 non customs paid vehicles during the month of September 2016. Customs Intelligence authorities impounded these vehicles vide Section 16 of Customs Act 1969.
Sources said that FBR Chairman Nisar Mohammad Khan and Member Customs FBR Nasir Masroor hailed the performance of Customs Intelligence and Investigations for impounding the non-duty paid vehicles.
Director General Customs Intelligence and Investigations Shaukat Ali expressed complete satisfaction on the performance of ASO and hoped that staff will continue to perform their duties with full devotion and zeal in future also.
