LAHORE: Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has appeared before the Lahore High Court (LHC) and in case filed by M/s Megna Textile.
Justice Shahid Jameel of Lahore High Court heard the appeal filed by the M/s Megna Textile in which counsel for the appellant argued that besides the order of court FBR sending notice to local companies that court may declare as null and void.
After hearing the arguments from appellant court ordered the chairman FBR that he makes solid policy regarding cases filed by the commissioner appeals by the taxpayers.
Court ask to the chairman FBR that why board delaying the appeals filed by the taxpayers and why FBR not decided the case in very next day of filing of appeal. Court asks that FBR should freeze the bank accounts of taxpayers under section 140 of Income Tax Ordinance 2001 and recovered amount.
Court remarked that problem of this country is that officer implements his own policies, after every six months Chairman FBR has changed. There is need for good administration in the department.
Court asks about FBR broadening of Tax Base situation and remarks that why FBR putting burden and existing taxpayers. Court asks that why every citizen National Identity Card is not considerd as National Tax Number (NTN).
Before the court Chairman FBR argued that without coordination of all departments CNIC is not considered as NTN. Adding more, FBR working on that every citizen CNIC is considered as NTN.
