OTTAWA: A significant improvement is seen in iron ore exports volume by Brazil and Canada, as per the latest trade statistics. The export volume of Russia and South Africa is seen declining. Brazil’s iron ore exports increased by 14% over the previous year to 34.5 million tons during the month of August this year, according to the data by Brazil Ministry of Development, Industry and Trade of the foreign trade Secretariat (SECEX). The monthly exports were up by 14% in comparison with the previous month. When matched with the exports during the same month a year before, Brazil’s iron exports during August this year were up by 27.2%. The value of exports totaled $12.5 billion, rising sharply by 26% from the prior month.
The iron ore exports by Canada increased by over 16% during the month of July this year to 3.413 million tons. The largest importers of Canadian iron ore during the month were the Netherlands (607,500 tons) and China (360,800 tons). The cumulative iron ore exports by the Canada during the first seven-month period of the year totaled 22.953 million tons, increasing by nearly 12% against the previous year. Canada exported 4.95 million tons to China during this period. The country’s iron ore exports to the Netherlands totaled 3.28 million tons.
