LAHORE: Tax base should be expanded instead of squeezing the existing taxpayers and taxpayers should be respected to encourage more taxpayers to come into the tax net.
These view were expressed by Lahore Tax Bar Association (LTBA) newly elected President Qamaruz Zaman and outgoing President Farhan Shahzad at a reception held in honor of office bearers and members of Customs and Tax Reporters Association (CTRA) here the other day.
CTRA president Rizwan Naqvi, general secretary Malik Azam, Finance Secretary Jahangir Hayat, senior journalist Ayaz Shujah, Raheel Syed, Sheikh Danial, Ferhan Ansari, Asad Iqbal, Rana Sajid and other were present on the occasion.
LTBA president Qameruz Zaman said that taxpayers should be respected as they are the backbone of the economy while both the Punjab Revenue Authority and Federal Board of Revenue should introduce taxpayers’ friendly policies to increase tax net.
He said that existing taxpayers were being squeezed which is a great injustice. He added that the FBR and PRA authorities should work out non-taxpaying entities to broaden tax net beside tax registration system also need to be made simple
The newly elected president said that he had work a great deal for the welfare of the Lahore Tax Bar Association members during his tenure as secretary general LTBA and is determined to work with the same spirit coming to the expectations of the members.
On this occasion the out-going president Ferhan Shahzad said that he worked according to best of his abilities to resolve the issues of taxpayers and members of the bar and due to the very reason the members have once again reposed their trust in their group which is one testimony of the hard work and dedication for the cause of the members and taxpayers.
