BUDAPEST: Budapest’s public transport company BKV will grant its employees a wage hike of average 15 percent under an agreement reached by the management and trade unions on Friday, Budapest Mayor István Tarlós told a press conference.
According to the mayor, basic salaries will be increased by 10 percent, by at least monthly 28,000 forints each. Drivers will be given a pay rise between 13 and 23 percent so that they will make at least net monthly 200,000 forints, he said. On another subject, Tarlós proposed that a “brutally high” fine of 50,000 forints for traffic code violations such as taking an irregular turn should be halved. He argued that “much smaller fines are levied for more serious violations”.
He added that the city had had a traffic camera removed from a junction in the third district, which had been illegitimately installed and whose photos had been used by the public areas authority to levy such fines. He added that the city would supervise all public area cameras in the city.
