PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Customs Staff at the Bacha Khan International Airport Peshawar is annoying the passengers by demanding the physical checking of their luggage and travel documents which does not fall in their domain of duty.
The customs officials posted at the Bacha Khan International Airport often remain busy in interviewing the passengers and physical checking of their luggage despite the fact that they have access to the scanners at their relevant desks for monitoring the process.
Both ANF and the customs officials are also seen checking the travel documents of the passengers while they are not supposed to do so.
The passengers also have complaints about the loss of their luggage in several cases and the passengers have to strive to have an access to their luggage upon arrival at the Peshawar Airport.
The passengers reminded that many complaints have been submitted to the Customs high-ups but no action taken yet and the customs staff does violate the prescribed rules of their duty.
For example, a passenger named Abdul Samad said that he has reached Peshawar 25 days before and still comes after regular intervals to know about my luggage which still has to be delivered to me. Often the customs staff at the airport also charges extra taxes which are other than those taxed on goods.
Custom’s Rules and Baggage Allowances notified vide SRO 666 (1) 2006 dated 23rd June 2006 have no such requirements mentioned that Customs staff will check the visa documents and passport.
The Customs Officer at the Bacha Khan International Airport, when contacted to get a viewpoint on the situation, informed Customs Today on Monday that the staff falls short of the requirement therefore such situation often develops.
