TRIPURA: Bangladesh Intelligence of Police have arrested a member of a fake currency smuggling racket with counterfeit notes from Churaibarhi area in the state’s northern region bordering Bangladesh here the other day.
Tipped-off, BIP laid a trap in a workshop at Nayaparha under Dharmanagar Police Station where the suspect was supposed to make some payment here the other day.
At around 2pm the intelligence people arrested the person along with 28 fake Indian notes of Rs 500 denomination.
Rajesh Debnath of Laxminagar in Churaibarhi said during preliminary interrogation the notes were smuggled in from Bangladesh.
A case has been registered with Dharmanagar police.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Dharmanagar Rajdwip De said investigation was on to know from where and how he managed to get the fake currency.
Police are hoping to bust the entire racket based on the information provided by the arrestee Debnath.
In the past, two members of the fake currency smuggling racket were arrested in North Tripura, which shares border with Bangladesh and neighbouring Indian states of Assam and Mizoram.
