DHAKA: Bangladesh earned around Tk72.94 billion in 2015-16 fiscal by exporting 1.96 million bales of jute and jute goods, said Textiles and Jute Minister Muhammad Imajuddin Pramanik.
Pramanic also added that the amount is around Tk8.75 billion more than what export of jute products fetched in the previous fiscal.
Moreover, the country produced around 8.25 million bales of jute during the period, he informed.
The minister said it in reply to a scripted query from treasury bench member Nizam Uddin Hazari (Feni-2) at the parliament.
The minister informed the parliament that the country fetched Tk10.54 billion in the last fiscal by exporting around 1.14 million bales of jute, while Tk62.40 billion was earned by exporting 825,000 bales of jute goods during the period. Imajuddin also said Tk64.18 billion was earned in the 2014-15 fiscal by exporting around 1.8 million bales of jute and jute products.
Of the amount Tk8.16 billion was earned by exporting over one million bales of jute, while the export earnings from jute goods was over Tk56 billion, he said.
“Bangladesh exports jute to India, Pakistan, Nepal, China, Russia, the UK, Ivory Coast, Vietnam, Djibouti, the Philippines, Brazil, El Salvador and the USA,” he said.
Besides, he said, jute goods are now being exported to 118 countries of the world.
