CHITTAGONG: Customs officials detained passenger Mohammad Rashid, 38 of Biman Airlines with 14 bars and 77 chains of gold at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong.The detainee was identified as, resident of Rangunia upazila in the district.
Rashid landed Chittagong in a flight coming in from Dubai, said Sushanta Paul, assistant director of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate.
Tipped-off customs officials intercepted Rashid in the green channel following his suspicious movements. 14 gold bars and 77 gold chains were found from him.
The estimated price of the gold bars, weighing 1.63 kilogrammes, was around Tk 70 lakh. The gold chains, weighing 240 grams, were worth Tk 7 lakh, said Sushanta Paul.
Rashid admited that he brought the gold from Dubai for sale in Bangladesh.
