DHAKA: Bangladesh Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) at Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) International Airport seized gold bars weighing around 3.5 kilogram and arrested one accused in this connection.
According to details, Mohammad Adam Ali boarded a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight as a domestic passenger from Chittagong when it landed in Shah Amanat (RA) International Airport from Muscat, Oman.
When the flight arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, the CIID officials identified Adam based on prior information. Searching his body, the CIID team recovered several gold bars, weighing around 3.5 kilogram, which was kept hidden inside his belt in a unique way, said Director General of the CIID Dr Moinul Khan.
Mohammad Adam, son of Mohammad Alim Uddin Mandal of Fatikchhari in Chittagong, revealed that he received the gold bars from inside the flight in exchange of money from another passenger named Rahman, who came here from Muscat.
“We are trying to arrest Rahman,” said Dr Moinul.
A case was filed with the concerned police station.
