HYDERABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Sukkur seized foreign origin 3,627 yards of smuggled non-duty-paid cloths. The market value of the item is Rs725400 involving duties and taxes of Rs336505. The action was carried out during the last week of July 2017-18.
Following the direction of Model Customs Collectorate Collector Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq, the ASO team is conducting various operations in the region in order to foil the smuggling attempts, officials said.
Sources told Customs Today that Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) jacobabad received a tip-off regarding some smuggling attempts. The ASO authorities constituted a raiding team consisting of In-charge Chek-post Makhan Khan, Inspector Joriyal Abbasi, Inspector Abdul Rauf Bhutto, Sepoys and a Driver. The party intercepted a public transport vehicle near Taj Petrol Pump, Shikarpur Road Sukkur, and recovered said cloths.
The raiding team asked the driver to produce the legal documents of the import of above said cloths, but he failed to do so. So the cloths were impounded.
A case was registered and an investigation was also started. The ASO deposited the confiscated item into Sukkur-Larkana division State Warehouse.
Talking with Customs Today, Customs Additional Collector Rehmatulah Vistro said the Hyderabad Customs showed excellent performance regarding the anti-smugglings during said period.
Officials said all possible measures will be taken to prevent the smugglings in the region as vigilance has been enhanced.
