FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Faisalabad has seized items, including gutkas and cigarettes worth Rs 841,000. As both items are considered drugs therefore a big amount of tax and duty valued Rs 2.5 million has been assessed against them.
Sources told Customs Today that ASO Deputy Collector Rizwan Khan, after getting a tip-off regarding the smuggling attempt, formed a team following the instructions of Collector Dr Zulfiqar to foil the bid.
The team, comprising Superintendent Saeed Akhtar Joiya, Inspectors Khalid Ashraf Noor, Mehmood Ahmed Dogar, Ali Zahid and Sepoys Muhammad Khalid, Dilawar Hussain, Afzaal Hussain, Muhammad Naeem, Muhammad Anwar and Muhammad Yasin, raided the Shahkot Toll Plaza Sheikhupura-Lahore Road, Faisalabad, and found the goods lying on road near the said toll plaza.
The Anti-Smuggling Organisation recovered imported cigarette lighters numbered 724 pieces, Guru Tobacco No: 126 done 50 tin boxs, Guru No: 300 numbered 70-Tins, Gutka numbered 2000-Pcs, Tara Niswar pieces numbered 3000, B&H Cigarettes done 50 cartons, Milano Cigarette numbered 450 cartons, Marlboro Cigarettes numbered 70 cartons, Pine Cigarettes done 50 cartons, Ashmina numbered 50 cartons, Zen Blue done 50 cartons), London Cigarettes numbered 12 cartons and Pan Qawam done 300 pieces. The goods were loaded on a rickshaw which was also impounded.
The customs demanded the legal documents of the goods from the accused but he failed to provide them to the authorities concerned.
Later, the seizure report was submitted to the adjudication department for further investigation.
