KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has busted huge quantity of smuggled betel nuts worth million or rupees.
According to the details, authentic information was received to Collector Preventive Dr Iftikhar Ahmed regarding the smuggling of huge quantity of betel nuts through rail route.
On the directive of Additional Collector Aamir Theim, a team was constituted under the supervision of Deputy Collector Headquarters Faisal Khan who with the staff of the Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) reached the city station.
On the arrival of a luggage train the staff of the Customs Preventive ASO carried out the search thoroughly and during the search, a bogey was found full of the sacs of the betel nuts worth millions of rupees.
Collector Preventive Dr Iftikhar Ahmed has appreciated the rapid action of the ASO and conducting the successful raid at the city station over the directives.
The recovered betel nuts sacs have been taken into the customs custody and a case has been filed. The said luggage train departed from Multan and arrived at Karachi city station.
The investigation has been started to search out the bilty number and the culprit who tried to transport the smuggled betel nuts from Multan through rail route.
After the successful raid, the Customs staff has also been directed to keep an eye over the rail routes of the city to avoid the activity of the smugglers.
