ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) has seized miscellaneous goods and two vehicles being used for transportation of smuggled items worth Rs 4.436 million during third week of July 2016.
Customs Preventive Deputy Collector Shahid Jan informed Customs Today that anti-smuggling squad made various successful seizures during the said period and confiscated foreign origin smuggled items.
Following special instructions of the Federal Board of Revenue, the anti-smuggling staff was working around the clock to curb smuggling of goods and vehicles in the region, he said, adding that new strategies were being implemented in this regard.
He further said that smugglers were using private cars to smuggle the items, so the special focus has been put on the checking of such cars. He revealed that the anti-smuggling staff busted an attempt of same nature in which the officials recovered 1581 kilogram of smuggled cloth worth Rs 1.36 million from a private car. The cloth was supplying in Punjab from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said that the ASO seized 14 LCDs worth Rs 492,450, 1000 kilogram of foreign origin milk powder worth Rs 283,500. The department also impounded two vehicles worth Rs 2.3 million during the third week.
Under the supervision of Islamabad Customs Collector Dr Arslan, the ASO will achieve desired result during new fiscal year 2016-17, he said.
Shahid Jan said that Collector Dr. Arslan appreciated the effort of ASO to curb the trends of smuggling and also asked them to put their focus on non-duty paid vehicles.
