KARACHI: The Appraising Intelligence Branch (AIB) has presented a list of importers to Collector Appraisement West Dr Farid Iqbal Qureshi who are allegedly involved in importing the chemicals by using inappropriate PCT Heading , it is learnt here.
Sources told Customs Today that during scrutiny of the import data of the consignments concerning clearance of chemical during the last three years, the AIB found tax evasion of millions of rupees. Sources said that the list comprised 35 importers involved in tax evasion.
Replying to a query, the sources disclosed that the tax evasion of Rs 600 million has been evaluated by the Appraising Intelligence Branch (AIB) while scrutinizing the post clearance data.
The sources further informed this scribe that the CollectorDr Farid Iqbal Qureshi would forwarded the said prepared list of the importers to the respective officers of the Collectorate to initiate legal proceedings against those unscrupulous elements, who involved in damaging the national exchequer.
It may be mentioned here that the Collector Appraisement (West) Dr Farid Iqbal, couple of days back held a meeting of the Collectorate in which he asked the AIB to prepare intelligence report in connection with the clearance of chemical consignments, as the Collector was received information that some embezzlement was being reported in the clearance of chemical consignments during the last three years.
