KARACHI: The officials belonging up to the Grade-16 of the Model Customs Collectorate-MCC of Appraisement (East) in their collective move have written a letter to the Member (Customs) Nisar Muhammad Ali Khan about the mismanagement and mal-practicing in the Collectorate in clearance of the consignments, Customs Today learnt here on Monday.
The reliable sources informed Customs Today that the continued irresponsible and immature attitude of the officers of the Collectorate of Grade-17 and above in finding duty/tax evasion cases compel the lower officials of the Collectorate to surface such mis-appropriations, being carried out in the Collectorate before the Member (Customs) Nisar Khan.
In the letter, the officials adopted the view point and requested the Member (Customs) to constitute a committee in order to find out the total number of cases established by the Collectorate in form of making contravention reports, seizure reports and FIRs in duty/tax evasion cases and also find out the current position of all that cases. They further sought departmental audit of the officers belonging to Grade-17 to above and realise the estimated leaking amount in those tax evasion, under-invoicing and mis-declaration cases.
It is pertinent to mention here that the rift between the officials and officers of the MCC-Appraisement (East) has been raised after difference in opinion in tax evasion case estimated million of rupees in clearance of motorcycle spare parts in which the Honorable Sindh High Court (SHC) summoned appraiser level official in contempt case. The sources informed this scribe that the officials belonging to Grade-16 or below are not satisfied with the working of their high-ups and the said prevailing situation leads the officials to write about the misappropriations of the Collectorate to the Member (Customs).
