KARACHI: The Customs Collectorate Appraisement East unearthed tax evasion of Rs5.48 million in the clearance of different types of Electronics accessories including branded air conditioners parts, refrigerator condensers, charging fans and hair dryers, chargeable mikes imported by M/s Shafaq Wahaj Traders, Karachi.
Sources told Customs Today that Collector Appraisement East Saeed Akram directed the R&D Section to verify the post-clearance consignment of the importer M/s Shafaq Wahaj Traders, Karachi.
During the scrutiny of import data, it was revealed that the importer willfully used the Green Channel in clearance of the consignment of different types of electronics accessories including branded air conditioners parts, refrigerator condensers, charging fans and hair dryers and caused the national exchequer a loss of Rs 5.48 million in terms of duties and taxes.
The sources further told that recovery notice was sent to the importer. The R&D sources said the importer has also assured the Customs Appraisement to deposit the evaded amount of Rs 5.48 million within 14 days.
Source said Customs Appraisement East is currently investigating three more cases which were detected during the month of November and December 2017. Collector Appraisement East directed the R&D Section to verify these consignments.
Earlier, the Customs Collectorate of Appraisement East uncovered Rs 6.50million in the clearance of different types of marble cutting machines, polish machines, polish material, and different types of marble cutting blades imported by M/s Jafar Marble Accessories.
It is worthy to mention here that R&D section of Appraisement East was not taking solid action against green channel smuggling issued covered extensively by Customs Today after which the Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar had taken notice of green channel illegal clearances and ordered the authorities concerned to submit reply within 10 days. R&D section of Appraisement East has detected one consignment cleared through green channel but why the dept has not yet taken any action hundreds of consignments of banned items cleared in the recent past through green channel.
