KARACHI: The Model Customs Collectorate Appraisement-East collected at least Rs 302.787 billion under various the heads during fiscal year 2015-16.
Sources said that the Appraisement-East collected Rs 302, 787 million since July 1 to June 30, 2016 that included Rs 99,904 million under the head of customs duty; Rs 152,082 million as sales tax; Rs 49,408 million as income tax and Rs 1,393 million under head of federal excise duty (FED).
The collection for the year 2014-15 recorded at Rs 223.154 billion that included Rs 65,859 million as customs duty, Rs 117,811 million as sales tax, Rs 38,115 million as income tax and Rs 1,368 million as FED.
In June 2016, it collected at least Rs 28.136 billion duty/taxes under various heads. The Appraisement-East collected Rs 9,964 million under the head of customs duty, Rs 13,687 million under the head of sales tax, Rs 4,362 million as income tax and Rs 124 million under head of federal excise duty during the said period.
Significantly, it collected Rs 4,108 million on the last working day of June 2016 i.e. June 30 that included Rs 1,532 million under the head of customs duty; Rs 1,967 million under head of sales tax, Rs 587 million as income tax and Rs 22 million under the head of federal excise duty.
The sources informed that Appraisement-East Collector Ashad Jawad has lauded the performance of the collectorate on collecting such huge revenue, contributing to the national kitty.
The sources added that Collector Ashad Jawwad has also launched a campaign to recover outstanding dues worth Rs 2 billion from various defaulting importers.
In this regard, the collector has constituted a team who is coordinating with the district authorities of the city for the recovery of the dues.
