KARACHI: The All Pakistan Marble Export Association office-bearers have announced to support the traders’ strike on August 1 who are protesting against the imposition of withholding tax on banking transactions. The members of the All Pakistan Marble Export Associations staged a protest rally near Kalaboard and chanted slogans against the government.
Talking to Customs Today, the Association’s President Iftikhar Ahmad said that they would observe a shutter down strike if the government failed to withdraw the withholding tax. He said that the marble industry was already facing crisis in Pakistan, adding that the marble industry is facing shortage of water and electricity and the situation is going from bad to worse.
He said the government has now imposed withholding tax on banking transactions. “This step will enhance our hardships,” he said, asking the government to withdraw the withholding tax immediately.
