FAISALABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate Faisalabad is paying special attention to boost the anti-smuggling activities in order to make the region well protected against smuggling.
This was stated by Faisalabad Customs Collector Dr Mirza Mubashir Baig while giving an interview to Customs Today.
We are always busy in motivating the anti-smuggling and appraisement officers to obtain the maximum results, he said. We achieved the target set by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) with a significant ratio, he triumphantly said. No doubt we are working hard and successfully collecting the revenue more than the targets allocated by the government, he further said.
He stressed coordination with other law enforcement agencies in order to curb the smuggling and illegal trade. He added that effective strategies were being designed to improve the performance of the department.
The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) conducted raids on different routes including Quetta Qila Saifullah, Zhob, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Mianwali, Kot Bannu, Bhakkar, Sirai Muhajir, Jhang City, Nowshera, Attock Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Bhera Interchange and Kot Momin, Collector Mirza Mubashir Baig. He mentioned that the ASO recovered smuggled goods from trucks, buses, and containers on their routes.
He also advised the whole ASO staff to remain vigilant throughout the jurisdiction against smugglers, adding that he will not tolerate any sort of negligence by the staff if found. Both effective strategy and staff commitment are required for taking action against the smugglers in the region, he suggested.
Collector Mirza Mubashir Baig warned that if field staff will be reshuffled then officials could not deliver positive results on the assigned tasks. He also directed the ASO officials to improve the performance otherwise they will be transferred to other regions to gain better results.
The Faisalabad Customs is taking appropriate steps to facilitate the importers and exporters of the region in order to generate much needed revenue for national kitty besides tightening noose around the neck of the smugglers.
He vowed to always settle the issues of traders who play an active role in developing the national economy and brief them on the latest policies formulated by the customs department.
I will try my level best to collect maximum revenue to meet the targets of running fiscal year as achieving the target and curbing the smuggling are my top priorities, he emphasized. He informed the correspondent that he motivates the officials of the department on daily basis to exploit their maximum potential. This is being done on the directions of Chief Collector Zeba Hai.
He explained that the trend of generating revenue against the set target is positive enough adding that Chief Zeba Hai is very kind and fully cooperative with the importers and exporters and hoped that this cooperation will continue in the best interest of the country.
