KARACHI: The Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation’s wing Anti-Smuggling Organization officers have arrested an Airport Superintendent Muhammad Afzal for taking bribe of 50,000 US dollar and Saudi Riyal currency notes recovered from a passenger Muhammad Yaseen at the Jinnah International Airport.
According to the details, the superintendent intercepted a passenger and arrested the culprit. The culprit bribed Superintendent Muhammad Afzal who released him without completing legal formalities of seizure. Culprit Muhammad Yaseen was travelling from Karachi to Dubai by Flight No: FZ-332. He skipped examination, scanning, immigration checks of customs, ASF and FIA check-posts easily.
Acting upon a tip-off passed on by Director General I&I Shaukat Ali regarding the recovery of currency notes, the ASO officers apprehended both culprits. The embezzled foreign currency notes include $18,900 and 76,500 Saudi Riyals. An FIR has been lodged against the culprits in the court of the Special Customs & Taxation. Physical remands of both accused have also been obtained for further investigations.
