KARACHI: The Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-II has issued a show-cause notice to M/s Furqan Enterprises for evasion of duty and taxes to the tune of Rs 1.76 million on import of thick paper sheets.
According to details, M/s Furqan Enterprises imported consignments of different kind of thick paper sheets under PCT Heading 3268.9010 and cleared the same with active connivance of their clearing agent M/s A & Y Shipping through Customs Appraisement (East), paying customs duty 0%. The subject goods, however, are correctly classified under PCT heading 3026.9001 where custom duty (CD) is livable at the rate of 15%. The mis-declaration of classification is also confirmed by the public.
Thus M/s Furqan Enterprises by way of mis-declaration of Pakistan Custom Tarrif deprived the national exchequer of its legitimate revenue of duty and taxes to the tune of Rs1.76 million.
In observation the importer, however, failed to come up with any tangible evidence and explanation and was also unable to refute the charges leveled by the department.
In view of the aforesaid facts M/s Furqan Enterprises intentionally & willfully caused loss to the government exchequer Rs 1.76 million.
The Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-II after thoroughly studying the contravention reports have issued show-cause notice to appear in person on 26th September.
