Additional Collector Beelam issues ONO against owner of non-duty-paid vehicle

FAISALABAD: Customs Adjudication Additional Collector Beelamur Ramzan has issued Order-in-Original (ONO) against the owner of non-duty-paid vehicle and directed that the vehicle be impounded.

According to details, the Anti-Smuggling Organization team intercepted a foreign origin Toyota Land Cruiser bearing registration No: B-1948 Charsadda. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Muhammad Samiullah, failed to provide any legal documents to the ASO after which they impounded the vehicle and forwarded the case to the Customs Adjudication.

The examination team of customs along with a representative of Faisalabad Dry Port Trust (FDPT) during the examination observed that the condition of the smuggled vehicle was good enough. It was suspected that high tariff vehicle had been replaced with the low tariff vehicle, so the officials impounded the vehicle and registered an FIR against the accused company.

It is to mention here that after the arrival of the said vehicle, neither importer nor did his any authorized person approach the authorities concerned for clearance of the consignment.

Superintendent Sardar Mohammad, Inspectors Abdul Jabbar, Safdar Ali and Masood Saeed Chohan appeared before the authority while no one appeared to defend the case from respondent’s side nor was any written reply received from the respondent.

The inspectors appeared from the prosecution side and asserted that the impounded vehicle falls under the ambit of Section 2 (S) of the Customs Act 1969.

Consequently, Customs Adjudication Additional Collector Beelamur Ramzan ordered the impounding of the vehicle under Clause 14 of Section 156 (1), 157(1) and (2) of the Customs Act-1969.
