FAISALABAD: Customs Adjudication Additional Collector Beelamur Ramzan has issued a show cause notice to a suspect who is allegedly involved in smuggling of non-duty paid almonds worth Rs 30,00,000 involving customs duty and taxes to the tune of Rs 18,51,840.
Sources told Customs Today that Customs Intelligence and Investigation Field Investigation Unit (FIU) intercepted a Hino truck bearing registration no SEA-558 near Dullaywala MM Road, district Bhakkar. The team asked the driver of the vehicle named Moosa Khan son of Rasool Khan who is a resident of Loralai to show documents regarding legal import of the foreign origin almonds without soft shell 127 bags (9,990 kilograms) but he remained fail to produce any relevant produced the same. Therefore, the officials impounded the almonds under customs laws and forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication for further legal action.
Now, Additional Collector Beelam issued notice to the accused person on the violations of Section 10-A. 89(1) and 156 (1) of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Section 156(1)89 of the Customs Act, 1969 .
However, the adjudication has directed the accused to file reply on next date of hearing. The seizing agency has also been directed to file reply in the respective case.
The adjudication authority also directed Customs Intelligence Deputy Director Muhammad Riaz Hussain to attend the hearing on schedule date along with relevant record.
