ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, presiding over a joint ministerial meeting of the energy sector, has ordered the Ministries of Petroleum and Natural Resources, Water & Power and Finance Division to add 2,400 to 2,500MW more electricity in the system by February 2015.
The prime minister directed the ministries to control line losses and electricity theft at any costs and take serious steps against theft of gas, irrespective of official status of the persons involved.
PM Nawaz Sharif was briefed about the availability of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) for the power sector and told that first consignment would reach Pakistan by February 2015. Sharif also gave approval of carrying out five power projects including Kot Addu Power Plant which will produce 1,200 MW.
The other projects, including Fast Track LNG Terminal, SSGC LNG Terminal, Gwadar Nawabshah LNG Terminal and Pipeline, Private LNG Terminals, GEI, PGPL and Bahria to import 2BCFD LNG, enough to generate up to 15,000MW, will be expedited.
Sharif also directed the Ministry of Water and Power to ensure issuance of electricity bills with proper meter reading in future.
