HYDERABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Hyderabad, Customs Preventive Jacobabad, has seized foreign origin non-duty-paid 696 pieces of smuggled air-fresheners and foreign origin non-duty-paid five sewing machines valued at Rs361000 including duties/taxes during the month of July 2017.
The ASO team, following the instructions of Hyderabad Customs Collector Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq and under the supervision of Additional Collector Rehmatulah Vistro, conducted a raid on the region.
The officials started checking the vehicles near the check-post of Jacobabad in Larkana. The ASO team intercepted a vehicle of a local transport company and recovered the abovementioned goods.
The team asked the driver of the vehicle to show the legal documents regarding the possession of the items, but he failed to do so.
The ASO took into possession the air fresheners and sewing machines following the prevailing customs bylaws. After making a seizure report, the said items will be deposited into the state werehouse of Sukkur.
The team, comprising Deputy Collector Mushtaq Ali Shahni, Assistant Collector Mumtaz Ali Ghangro, Check-Post Jacobabad-Larkana In-Charge Inspector Aziz Ahmed Katpar, Inspector Agha Nazeer, Inspector Nasarullah Gilal, Inspector Rai Abro, Sepoys, driver and other staff, foiled the smuggling bid.
The sources said the Collector of Customs Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq advised the officials of the ASO to adopt a zero tolerance against the smugglers who are out to destroy the legal business of the city.
Officials said all possible steps will be taken to check the smugglings in the region as vigilance has also been enhanced.
