HYDERABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate Hyderabad (ASO), Customs Preventive Sukkur, has confiscated foreign origin non-duty-paid 15,301 kg of pistachio worth Rs03.2million involving duties and taxes of Rs01.7million during an action near customs check-post of Dera Morr, Jacobabad, Larkana-Sukkur Division, during October 2017-18.
Following strict guidelines by MCC Hyderabad Customs Collector Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq, the ASO team carried out various anti-smuggling activities to protect the national exchequer and inflation.
The team, headed by Additional Collector Customs MCC Hyderabad Dr Aamer Nawaz Hamid, constituted a raiding party comprising of In-Charge Zulfiqar Jamali, some Inspectors and Sepoys and a Driver, participated in the action.
The team intercepted a public transport vehicle near customs check-post, Dera More-Sukkur Division, and recovered abovementioned pistachio.
Before the recovery, officials asked the driver to produce any legal document about the possession of the items but he was unable to do so therefore the consignment was impounded.
A case was registered and an investigation also started. Officials said Hyderabad Customs Collector Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq had directed that effective measures be taken for arresting the smuggling in the region.
