ISLAMABAD: Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said that he will resign from the post if any corruption was proved in the import of LNG.
He was responding to a motion moved by Senator Mohsin Aziz to discuss the issues of award of LNG terminal to Elengy Terminal Pakistan Limited (ETPL) without completing the Codal formalities causing a less of billions of rupees to national exchequer.
The minister said that all the codal formalities had been followed by the government while awarding LNG terminal to ETPL. He said that he was ready to face National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and special committee to probe the issue. He urged the lawmakers not to politicize the import of LNG issue.
Abbasi said that NAB had sought information, which has been dispatched to it. He informed the house that import of LNG would save $600 million per year, and if used properly, it can save $1 billion annually Imported LNG was the only cheaper source to meet the country’s energy requirements with saving massively to the national kitty, he added.
