MUZAFFARGARH: Huge fire in unit-4 of 1,300MW a thermal power plant plunged the entire area into darkness and suspended supply of 300MW to national grid. As per reports, fire erupted in unit-4 of the thermal power station which engulfed the boiler in the unit.
The plant was closed down and fire-fighters started efforts to extinguish the fire. However, after hectic efforts for six hours, the inferno was brought under control.
Reports said that it might take a month or more to make the plant operational. However, sources said that the power station had been contributing 1,300MW to the NTDC but after the fire its generation capacity had dropped to 1,000MW.
The unit built in 1996, became operational in 1998 with an initial capacity of 300MW.
