30 new fly species discovered by researchers in Los Angles

BRENT: Brian Brown, a curator of entomology at the Natural History Museum of Los Angles, set up 30 sampling sites in backyard, a community garden and a school across the city. They started trapping flying insects.
“It’s one of those situations where you have to keep pinching yourself. I’d be less surprised to find hundreds of new species of Megaselia at a remote site in Costa Rica than I was to find 30 new species right here in L.A,” said Hartop an entomologist at the museum.
The initiative is good one by NHM’s BioSCAN project. Research aims to discover biodiversity and explore new species all over the city of Los Angeles.
