LAHORE: An application has been filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) to stop sales tax from more than 17 percent. According to appellant, the government can collect up to 17 percent sales tax on petroleum products.
The application has been filed by the Judicial Activism Panel, Civil Society Network and Pakistan Justice Party.
The appellant mentioned in the application that common interest counsel allowed the government of Pakistan to maintain the petroleum products prices in one time in the month but government of Pakistan has started to set prices after 15 days, which is violation of the constitution and laws and exploitation of the public.
Added more according to the law government cannot collect more than 17 percent but it collecting 28.50 percent sales tax on petroleum that implemented from 16 January.
Government already collecting 25 percent sales tax from January 1, 2017 that is violation of article 9, 14 and 38 of Pakistan constitution Appellant mentioned.
