RAWALPINDI: The policy for public transports on Lahore Metro Bus route will also be applied on Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus route and all public transport will be banned from Murree Road.
The Rawalpindi Transport Authority (RTA) will allot new routes to public transporters for their vehicles.
A senior official of the City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR), defending the decision, said that passengers would use public transport rather than the Metro bus, so public transports should be banned on Murree Road.
Criticising the decision, Muttahida Transport Association Rawalpindi-Islamabad President Raja Riaz said that the RTA’s decision was biased and this action would not provide equal opportunity to all in the transport business.
More than 2,000 public transport vehicles currently ply on the Murree Road. “If that route is closed to us, the public and the public transporters both will suffer financially,” he said
