2.32/unit cut in power tariff: PM ‘pro-public’ decision lauded at large

KARACHI: The general public, especially the business community lauded the government decision to cut power tariff by Rs2.32 per unit. The business community welcomed the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s announcement regarding Rs2.32 per unit reduction in electricity tariff and a further cut in the POL prices by December end.

Rejoicing the much “awaited and extremely pro-public,” decision by the government, the businessmen declared that the decision would leave a positive impact on the national economy and would bring down cost of industrial and agricultural production.

Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) President Iqbal Vohra stressed that now people in general wanted the government trickledown benefits of the cut in the POL prices and power tariff in shape of reduction in the prices of essential commodities. He said that slash in the electricity tariff and POL prices cut would help bringing down the cost of almost all products, mainly consumer items, boosting industrial growth which ultimately would strengthen the national economy.

Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) President Zakaria Usman lauded Prime Minister Nawaz Sahrif and the PML-N government, saying that the government had taken a remarkable decision which would benefit all and sundry. The FPPCI President said that reduction in electricity rates would equally benefit domestic, agricultural and industrial consumers with a significantly positive impact on the country and its economy at large. Zakaria Usman said power rates cut by no less than Rs 2.32 per unit was extremely appreciable in the context of domestic consumers as it would help many of the power users to pay their monthly bills in time and without any difficulty.
