KARACHI: Weekly inflation, measured through the Sensitive Price Index (SPI), for combined income group slightly down by 0.40 per cent for the week ending Dec 11 as compared to the previous week.
According to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics data, the inflation declined due to the reduction in petroleum prices. SPI monitors prices of 53 items based on the survey of 17 cities and 53 markets.
The impact of prices on various income groups also witnessed variations during the week under review.
For the lowest income group earning up to Rs8,000, the SPI decreased by 0.54pc over the previous week, while inflation for the top income group (Rs35,000 and above) was down by 0.33pc.
However, as compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review witnessed a decline of 0.05pc.
The food items which registered increase in their prices are tomatoes by 4.04pc; pulse moong 0.77pc; wheat 0.53pc; chicken 0.25pc; garlic 0.22pc and beef with bone 0.10pc; while in non-food items, kerosene increased by 0.10pc.
