LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has approved a 14-day judicial remand of a suspect, Muhammad Riaz, who is involved in smuggling of 14 kilogram gold.
Riaz was arrested by the customs authorities after rejection of pre arrest bail plea by the Supreme Court. The accused was trying to smuggle gold to Dubai.
Earlier, the customs authorities deputed at Multan International airport recovered 14 kilograms of gold from two females in their hands in shape of bangles (kara) and anklets (pazaib) along with 39000 Saudi riyals and United Arab Emirates dirhams.
Multan Customs had seized the recovered gold and foreign currency of worth approximately Rs64.6 million and lodged FIR against the both arrested women on charges of smuggling and money laundering.
Accused Muhammad Riaz was in custody of Customs Intelligence on physical remand. On Monday he was produced before the court of Masood Arshad where he sent him to jail for judicial trial.
